Guided Bow River Fishing: Common Questions
Straight answers on cost, season, where we fish, and what's included.
How much does a guided Bow River fishing trip cost?
A full-day guided trip is $750 CAD (8 hours) and a half-day is $525 CAD (4–5 hours). Both prices are per drift boat for 1–2 anglers and include the boat, all rods and gear, waders, casting instruction, and hotel pickup in Calgary. Full-day trips also include a streamside lunch.
Where does King Trout Outfitters guide?
Our home water is the world-famous Bow River tailwater in and downstream of Calgary — from the city toward Carseland — where our guides fish 150–200 days a year. We've also expanded upstream: we can now set you up with a guided upper-Bow trip around Canmore, just outside Banff, through a trusted professional guide in our network. Tell us what you're after and we'll match you to the right water.
When is the Bow River fishing season?
Our guided season runs April through October. Every month fishes differently — spring streamers and blue-winged olives, summer caddis and hoppers, and productive fall streamer fishing before the season closes. We do not run winter trips.
What fish are in the Bow River?
The Calgary Bow River holds wild brown trout averaging 16–22" and rainbow trout averaging 15–20", at a density of 3,000+ trout per mile (Alberta Environment surveys). It's fly fishing only — we target trout with nymphs, streamers, and dry flies.
Do I need experience or my own gear?
No experience or equipment required. Beginners are welcome — casting instruction is included on every trip — and we provide all rods, reels, flies, waders, and boots. Just bring a fishing license, sunglasses, and layers for the weather.
Do you provide hotel pickup?
Yes. Hotel pickup from Calgary accommodations is included on both half-day and full-day trips, along with shuttle service between the launch and takeout.
